Investigators Arrest Cumberland Man For Wife's Death

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities arrested a man in connection with the death of a Fayetteville woman.

Jimmy Holmes was picked up by authorities 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the residence of his ex-wife in Harnett County.

Investigators say the body of his estranged wife, Shonda Holmes, 35, of Fayetteville, was found in a wooded area near Nash Road around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.

"Right now, all we can say is that there is trauma to the body, this is a homicide. We believe the crime occured at another location, possibly her residence," said Maj. Sam Pennica of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators think the body was dumped in the area where it was found. They say it appeared the woman was the victim of a homicide, but the cause of death has not been determined.

A warrant for first-degree murder had been issued for Jimmy Holmes. Pennica said Holmes has a history of domestic violence.

Holmes is being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday morning.
