RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County sheriff's deputies are looking for a man responsible for shooting a convenience store employee in the neck during a robbery Thursday night.

Hardee Parrish, who owns Hardee's Food Mart on Penny Road in southwest Raleigh, said that the shooter approached clerk Jerry Fuquay as he was closing the store around 9 p.m., stole a bank bag and shot him.

Neighbors near the store said they heard gunshots and that the robber was wearing a mask.

Authorities have not confirmed the report and have not released any other details about the case.

Fuquay, who has worked at the store for 25 years, was listed in good condition at a local hospital Friday afternoon.

"He's an outstanding person, as far as I'm concerned," Thomas Fann, who has lived next to the store for 18 years, said Friday. "I don't know why somebody would actually shoot him."
