CLAYTON, N.C. — One person was killed and a second was sent to the hospital Monday morning following a wreck near Clayton, authorities said.

Troy McKeever, 22, of Smithfield, was northbound on Thanksgiving Volunteer Fire Department Road when he ran off of the road, overcorrected and crossed the center line, authorities said. A sport utility vehicle driven by Francis Worth, 72, of New York, collided with McKeever's Kia sedan, hitting the left side of the vehicle, authorities said.

The accident occurred near Covered Bridge Road in the Archer Lodge community.

McKeever, who had moved to Smithfield with his girlfriend from Florida in September, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Worth was transported to WakeMed, where he was treated and released.

McKeever and his girlfriend had just moved to Smithfield from Florida back in September.

No charges will be filed in the case, authorities said.
