DURHAM, N.C. — Traffic in the westbound lanes is moving again on Interstate 40 near the Durham Freeway exit, following an accident.
Authorities say seven cars and two tractor-trailers were involved in the accident that occurred shortly before noon. Some people involved in the accident. had non-lifethreatening injuries.
Both lanes of I-40 West from mile marker 279 to mile marker 283 near Durham were closed for more than two hours.
Monday's accident was the latest in a series of accidents near construction workzones on I-40. On
July 9
, a tractor-trailer ran into a car near the Fayetteville Road exit. Kevin Meyer was killed in the accident, and his 4-year-old daughter was injured.
Durham police charged Ken Pittman with misdemeanor death by vehicle. That wreck shut down I-40 for nine hours.
