Two Westbound I-40 Lanes Near Durham Reopen After Accident

Traffic in the westbound lanes is moving again on Interstate 40 near the Durham Freeway exit, following an accident.

Authorities say seven cars and two tractor-trailers were involved in the accident that occurred shortly before noon. Some people involved in the accident. had non-lifethreatening injuries.

Both lanes of I-40 West from mile marker 279 to mile marker 283 near Durham were closed for more than two hours.

Monday's accident was the latest in a series of accidents near construction workzones on I-40. On

July 9

, a tractor-trailer ran into a car near the Fayetteville Road exit. Kevin Meyer was killed in the accident, and his 4-year-old daughter was injured.

Durham police charged Ken Pittman with misdemeanor death by vehicle. That wreck shut down I-40 for nine hours.
