At least two people were killed Sunday morning when a small plane crashed into a residential area in west Charlotte, emergency officials said.

At least two people were killed Sunday morning when a small plane crashed into a residential area in west Charlotte, emergency officials said.

According to Mecklenberg County Emergency Services, a Cessna T182G single-engine aircraft crashed near the intersection of Carlyle Drive and Bromwich Road near Wilkinson Boulevard around 11 a.m. Several roads in the area were temporarily shut down as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Witnesses at the scene said that several homes were damaged by debris from the plane. It is unknown if additional people were injured in the area of the accident.
