John Bryant, 32, who had a fugitive warrant against him for the armed robbery of a Rocky Mount beauty salon on May 31, also is the chief suspect in a string of a dozen robberies and attempts in Connecticut.
He initially was held as a fugitive from justice in North Carolina. But police said they expect to lodge numerous arrest warrants against him in the coming days.
They said he is the suspect in armed robberies and attempted robberies in at least nine Connecticut communities.
Police said they are looking for Bryant's accomplice and expect to have him in custody soon. The duo is believed to be responsible for 10 armed robberies and two failed ones, police said, mainly at convenience stores and gas stations.
The Connecticut FBI Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force, along with state and Bridgeport police, surrounded a house after a tan Lincoln with North Carolina license plates was spotted in front. After a brief standoff, Bryant surrendered after police brought in a K-9 dog to the scene.
Bryant is charged with being a fugitive from justice in North Carolina and held in lieu of $1 million bond.
