RALEIGH, N.C. — The next big singing sensation from North Carolina could be
Jason Carroll
, of Franklinton.
Carroll, 25, is the winner of FOX 50's "Gimme the Mike" competition.
The winners of five semifinal rounds and an ultimate wild card winner, chosen by an online vote, competed in a live broadcast Wednesday night at the BTI Center in Raleigh.
Carroll won the chance to audition at Sony, BMG and Universal Records in New York City and to record a demo at Osceola Studios in Raleigh. Saturday, he will sing the national anthem at the Durham Bulls game.
Finalists included Veeda McClary, of Raleigh; Anita Norris, of Raleigh; Salimah Bryant, of Fayetteville; Cheryl Scott, of Rocky Mount; and ultimate wild card winner Meghan Lumsden.
