Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police say an electrical shortage is to blame for a fire in west Raleigh Wednesday afternoon.

The shortage was found in an air-conditioning unit junction box in one of the units at the King's Court Apartment complex on Gorman Street.

Raleigh city and Wake County fire crews were called out to the fire just before 4 p.m.

The fire tore through the roof, gutting two units and causing smoke and water damage in three others. Damage is estimated at $250,000. No one was injured.

The apartment complex is located near Avent Ferry Road and North Carolina State University.
