print friendly

CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for information about an armed robbery and shooting that occurred on Friday, June 25 behind Forest Hills Shopping Center in the 1200 block of University Drive.

Durham police say Roy Armando Brizuela-Reyes, 38, parked his car behind a business in the shopping center around 4:40 p.m. and was getting ready to get out of the car when his driver's window shattered. A man then leaned into the car and the two men struggled with each other through the window.

Brizuela-Reyes got out of the car and the two men continued to struggle. Brizuela-Reyes started to run and was shot in the back. The suspect robbed Brizuela-Reyes of cash and then fled in a car driven by another man, police said.

Brizuela-Reyes, who was conscious when officers arrived, was taken to Duke University Hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

The alleged shooter is described as a black male with a dark complexion in his early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds. He had short hair that was shaved on the sides and may have had a light mustache. He was wearing dark clothing.

A second suspect is described as a black male in his 20s. The two men fled in a dark-colored car that resembled a Chevrolet Cavalier.

Officers found a necklace and a headband at the scene that may belong to the suspect. The headband is black with a silver Nike swoosh logo on it.

The necklace has a silver medallion with the word CHRIS in vertical letters above a G-14 symbol. The medallion has small diamonds on it and is attached to the chain with a large ring covered with diamond nuggets.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator W.L. Early at 560-4440, ext. 229 or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases.
