SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Four Oaks man may suffer permanent hearing loss after a teenager tossed a firecracker into his truck.
Smithfield police say a 15-year-old threw a firecracker at 39-year-old Jesse Denning's truck as he was pulling out of a parking lot.
The firecracker bounced into the truck and exploded beside his ear.
Police charged the teen Monday night with assault inflicting serious injury.
