RALEIGH, N.C. — Most work zones along interstate and U.S. routes across North Carolina will be inactive during the July Fourth holiday from Friday to Monday.
While planning your holiday trip, the state Department of Transportation urges drivers watch for lane closings or detours in the following areas:
Interstate Routes:
Interstate 85/Interstate 40 in Alamance County: At milemarker 140, the left inside lane is closed in both directions. Three of four lanes will remain open. Expected backups are less than 1 mile. Interstate 77 in Mecklenburg County: The left northbound lane is closed from LaSalle Street to I-85. Three of four existing lanes will remain open. I-85 in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties: The offramp from I-85 southbound to City Boulevard is closed. Closure is signed at the site. Interstate 485 at I-85 in Mecklenburg County: The outside right lane closed in each direction from milemarker 29 to 31. Three of four existing lanes will remain open. U.S. Routes:
U.S. 17 in Onslow County: Possible lane closures south of Jacksonville and N.C. 24 East can be expected due to the construction of the Jacksonville Bypass. U.S. 421/I-40 Business in Forsyth County: East and westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane from U.S. 52 East to U.S.158. N.C. Routes:
N.C. 751 in Durham County: The N.C. 751 onramp to I-40 West is currently closed and will remain closed during the holiday weekend. Motorists are reminded to stay alert, travel at nonpeak times and use alternate routes when possible.
