print friendly

A Durham man was shot during a robbery Friday afternoon behind Forest Hills Shopping Center in the 1200 block of University Drive.

According to police, the victim, 38-year-old Roy Armando Brizuela-Reyes, parked his car behind a business in the shopping center around 4:40 p.m. and was getting ready to get out of the car when his driver's window shattered. A man then leaned into the car, and the two men struggled with each other through the window.

Brizuela-Reyes got out of the car, and the two men continued to struggle. Brizuela-Reyes started to run and was shot in the back.

The suspect robbed Brizuela-Reyes of cash and then fled in a car driven by another man.

Brizuela-Reyes, who was conscious when officers arrived, was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was in critical condition Friday night.

The shooter was described as a black male with a dark complexion in his early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds. He had short hair that was shaved on the sides and may have had a light mustache. He was wearing dark clothing.

The second suspect is described as a black male in his 20s. The two men fled in a dark-colored car that resembled a Chevrolet Cavalier.

Officers found a necklace and a headband at the scene that may belong to the suspect. The headband is black with a silver Nike swoosh logo on it. The necklace has a silver medallion with the word CHRIS in vertical letters above a G-14 symbol.

The medallion has small diamonds on it and is attached to the chain with a large ring covered with diamond nuggets.
