Two Drivers Killed In Fayetteville Wreck; Two Others Injured

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Speed may have contributed to a deadly wreck on Morganton Road in Fayetteville Thursday night.

Investigators say Vincent Withers and his passenger were traveling in a Trans Am at a high rate of speed when Withers tried to make a left turn, missed it, hit a median and went airborne over a minivan.

The Trans Am landed on a Buick, officials said. Withers and another driver, Andrew Swamp, Jr., were killed in the incident.

Two other people were rushed to the hospital. Officers expect them to survive. Meanwhile, other drivers consider themselves lucky.

"I pray to God and thank God that I'm alive, and thank God that I was a little further ahead of the accident because I could have been a casualty," driver Bob White said.

Witnesses say the Trans Am was going anywhere from 60 to 90 miles per hour. The speed limit in that area is 45 miles per hour.
