Blackhawk Makes Precautionary Landing At Lumberton Airport

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter assigned to 1st Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment made a precautionary landing at the Lumberton Airport at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Blackhawk was on a routine training mission from Simmons Army Airfield when the pilot had indications of reduced power availability in one of the two engines on board. The pilots determined it was prudent to land at the nearest airport.

Three soldiers were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident and were not injured. There was no damage to the helicopter.

The unit has dispatched a maintenance-and-recovery team to Lumberton to recover the aircraft back to Fort Bragg.
