FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police say three people were arrested in Fayetteville Monday afternoon for criminal activity at a Wal-Mart store.
Authorities say two women were stealing CDs and other items around 3 p.m. at the Wal-Mart on Skibo Road. Around the same time, investigators say a man, identified as Donivan Martin, 38, of Parkton, set a clothing rack on fire in the women's athletic wear section.
Officials say the fire caused $1.6 million worth of damage.
According to investigators, charges have not been released but are pending. It is not known if the incidents are related.
Store associates were able to extinguish the fire themselves in about 10 minutes. No one was injured.
Close to 1,000 people were evacuated from the store before it reopened to employees and customers more than two hours later.
