RALEIGH, N.C. — Investigators have discovered how a convicted felon got an assault rifle to kill his former girlfriend.
Investigators said John Peck bought the gun legally from a private individual, then used it to kill Christen Najouks, a University of North Carolina at Wilmington student.
Najouks was shot 11 times outside her apartment. Peck killed himself after a shootout with rangers in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.
