FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — A Franklin County track owner has plans for a bigger operation, less than a year after dealing with a fatal accident. The county planning board will hear the issue Tuesday.
Hugh Williams submitted a plan to build a motor sports park with 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, a tractor and truck pull and mud slings.
"I've tried to weigh the good and the bad," he said, "I can't turn my back on all the good things we've done here."
During a mud sling event last August, Candace Bryant Brown was killed when a modified Jeep went out of control. Several others were injured. Williams had pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges for not having the proper permits.
Some people are opposed to the idea, including Lynn Williams, Hugh's cousin.
"It's beyond me. I just don't understand why a guy is coming from," he said.
Lynn Williams has started a petition to stop his cousin from going through with his plans.
