Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham woman was killed Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle wreck at the intersection of North Gregson Street and West Markham Avenue.

Durham police say an eastbound 1992 Ford Escort driven by Veronia Montgomery, 66, of Maple Street ran a red light on Markham Avenue and collided with a southbound 1994 Jeep driven by Kenneth Davis, 57, of Wheat Mill Road, around 9:30 a.m.

The front of Davis' Jeep struck the driver's side door of the Escort, pinning Montgomery inside her vehicle. The Jeep then collided with a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by John Latshaw, 53, of Dundee Court, which was also going southbound on Gregson Street.

Montgomery was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davis suffered minor injuries and Latshaw was not injured.

The Ford Escort was a total loss. Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $2,500 and damage to the Ford F-150 pickup truck was estimated at $1,500.

No charges have been filed. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident.

The road was blocked for more than an hour.
