Accident Involving Life Flight Vehicle Shuts Down Durham Freeway

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Highway 147 South is open again after a traffic accident shut it down for about three hours Sunday morning.

The highway was closed at the Chapel Hill Street exit after a Duke University Life Flight vehicle wrecked about 9 a.m. Due to a significant spill of fuel and other engine fluids, the southbound lanes were closed so crews could clean up.

Southbound traffic was diverted onto the southbound Chapel Hill Street exit and then directed across Chapel Hill Street for re-entry to the highway using the southbound Chapel Hill Street entry.

The lanes were reopened about noon.
