Warrant Lists Items Taken In Connection With Duke Employee's Homicide

Curt Blackman
DURHAM, N.C. — Police are still looking for a Duke University employee's killer. A search warrant reveals some of the details of the investigation.

Curt Blackman's body was found in his apartment last week. Authorities said he was bound and stabbed repeatedly. Investigators searched Blackman's apartment for two days. The forensic unit brought out several bags and sifted through them, looking for possible clues.

A search warrant filed Tuesday shows investigators took dozens of items as possible evidence. The list includes condoms, an earring, pillowcases and a sheet.

Investigators are looking at a knife taken from the home, but they will not say if it is the murder weapon.

Police also took Blackman's computer. They plan to have the State Bureau of Investigation look at the hard drive. Agents will look over e-mail and Web sites to see who Blackman had contact with in recent weeks.

Police will also ask the SBI to put a rush on forensic tests of the evidence. Detectives insist at this point that they do not have a suspect or a motive.

Blackman, a recruiter for graduate studies and minority programs, had worked at Duke University for four years. He was planning to move to Chicago this summer to pursue his Ph.D. at Northwestern University.

A memorial service will be next Tuesday at Duke Chapel and will be open to the public.
