The hunt for a rape and kidnapping suspect came to a violent end in Wake Forest overnight.

Kearney is in critical condition at WakeMed.

Authorities say Kearney tied up and raped a woman in her North Raleigh apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Officials said a woman was sexually assaulted at the Richland Run Apartments located on Sedgewood Drive. A neighbor found the victim after she heard the victim screaming for help.

"I went up to the porch and I found her there. She was tied up and she was hurt, so I ran back home and called 911," the neighbor said.

Police charged Kearney with first-degree forcible rape, first-degree kidnapping and two counts of first-degree sex offense.

Investigators say Kearney was spotted hours later in Rocky Mount where he allegedy kidnapped, thtreatened and assaulted a woman.

The Rocky Mount Police Department has charged Kearney with misdemeanor assault, communicating threats and second-degree kidnapping in connection with crimes committed after the incident in Raleigh.

Investigators say Kearney had ties to Rocky Mount where he lived and worked at one time. He is currently working in the Raleigh area.
