CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — After two days of searching the Cape Fear River, investigators now say they do not think a missing Dunn man was dumped there.
Two Coast Guard teams had just joined the search for 73-year-old William Dennis on Friday.
Investigators will not give specifics, but they now say new leads in the case rule out that he is in the river.
Officers still believe Dennis was killed as part of a bigger crime spree.
William Medford Dennis, 73, was last seen alive in the company of Mary Ann Webb, Michael Philon and Tahishei Harrison on April 28. The three people are currently behind bars.
