PRINCETON, N.C. — The mayor of a small Johnston County town had a run-in with the police for not mowing his grass.

Fortunately for Princeton Mayor Don Rains, the grass was cut Thursday, and he avoided a fine.

Rains is part owner of two lots in Princeton. The town's police chief said the grass was 40 inches high -- more than three feet.

The mayor said his mower went bad, and that is why it took so long to get the grass cut.

Because the lawn was mowed Thursday, the police chief said he will drop the charges.
