Authorities Believe Missing Sanford Woman Was Abducted

Family and friends do not know what could have happened to Linda Watts, who works at the mailroom of the

Sanford Herald

. Authorities said Watts briefly came home from work midnight Tuesday. She later returned to work to pick up a paper.

Some people believe Watts may have been abducted.

"A witness claims to have seen her abducted by two men. That's really all we know," said Bill Horner III, publisher of the

Sanford Herald

.

"All kinds of crazy things have been going through our heads -- wondering if she has eaten or drank anything," said Debbie Burnside, Watts' friend.

Police found some of Watts' belongings near McIver and Jenkins streets, including a newspaper, clothing and food. They said they do not know of anyone who would want to hurt Watts.

"We are not going to give up. We hope to find her safe and sound," said Capt. David Smith, of the Sanford Police Department.

"She's a wonderful woman. I love her with all my heart. I wish she would come on back and be with me," said Foster Watts, Linda's husband.

Watts, who lives close by the newspaper building, often walks to work, her husband said. The

is offering a $1,000 reward for information about Watts' disappearance.
