DOT Announces I-40 Traffic Shift, Ramp Closure In Durham

DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will shift traffic on Interstate 40 West between N.C. 147 and west of N.C. 751 in Durham County beginning Friday.

Traffic will be shifted from the two existing travel lanes to the existing right lane and the outside shoulder. As part of the traffic shift, the department will temporarily close the ramp accessing I-40 West from N.C. 751 beginning Sunday.

The signed detour for motorists needing to access I-40 West from N.C. 751 is as follows:

  • I-40 East to Fayetteville Road to I-40 West.

    • The traffic shift and ramp closure will be in place for about two months. The construction is part of the project to widen I-40.
