Durham Police Make Large Marijuana Bust

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police officers confiscated almost $800,000 worth of marijuana during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.

Acting on a tip, officers from the Police Department's Special Operations Division and Uniform Patrol Bureau stopped a truck near the intersection of South Alston Avenue and Carpenter Fletcher Road.

Police canines were called to the scene and detected drugs in the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and found 868 pounds of marijuana, which has an estimated value of $781,200.

The marijuana seizure is one of the largest in the history of the Durham Police Department.

The case is still under investigations and charges are pending.
