RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities say a body found in Jordan Lake over the weekend is that of a missing University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student.
Kayakers found 19-year-old
Ziyun "Tim" Mao's
body in the water in the Parker's Creek Recreation Area, on the west side of the lake in Chatham County on Sunday.
The kayakers reported the discovery to park rangers, who launched a boat and recovered Mao's body. According to rangers, his body had been in the water for at least two days.
Mao was last seen in his residence hall room May 4. The death is being treated as an apparent suicide, according to police.
