CARY, N.C. — Officials in Cary are looking for answers after a 100-year-old tombstone showed up in a fast-food parking lot.
Police were called to the Wendy's on Northwest Maynard Road on April 21. Authorities found a light gray marble headstone about 2-by-1 feet with a rounded top and a chiseled dove toward the top.
The inscription reads, "Elizabeth Carlton, January 11, 1829, to April 1, 1904."
Authorities have contacted local cemeteries, geneologists and the North Carolina Department of Archives, but they have not had any luck.
Anyone with any information about the grave marker is asked to contact Cary police.
