Fayetteville police warn of imposters
Police in Fayetteville are putting a warning out to local residents about two men pretending to be police officers.
Posted — UpdatedFayetteville Police Department spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said that two men pretending to be police officers showed up at the front door of a home on Vandenberg Drive Friday, claiming to be responding to a call at the address.
When they didn't show their badges, the homeowner got suspicious and closed the door and called police, MacRoberts said.
The men took off in a blue, older model Chevrolet Impala with dark-tinted windows. They were dressed identically in blue cargo pants, blue short-sleeve shirts and black work boots. Both were black with medium builds and short hair and stood 5 feet 7 inches tall and 5 feet 9 inches tall.
Anyone with information that could help police should call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
MacRoberts said that residents should always ask to see a police badge if a person identifies as a police officer and that they should call 911 immediately if they are suspicious.
In situations when they are driving and encounter a blue light, he said, they should also call 911 if they are unsure if the person stopping them is a law enforcement officer.
