RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County middle school teacher was arrested Thursday, accused of having sex with a student.

Raleigh police have charged 31-year-old Stevie Robertson with statutory rape.

Investigators say Robertson, a seventh-grade social studies teacher at East Millbrook Middle School, is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old female student off campus.

According to the search warrant, Robertson went to the girl's home when her mother was out. The warrant states when the mother returned home, Robertson held the door shut to block her entry. He later allegedly pushed her out of the way and ran out of the house.

Officials said the girl's parents later told police. Authorities will not say if the girl in question was in Robertson's class.

The search warrant states that authorities took clothing and bedding from the victim's house. They also took some of Robertson's clothing. One of his shirts reportedly had a bloodstain.

Robertson has since resigned from Wake County schools. He had been involved with the school system since July 2002.

"When something like this happens, it just sends shockwaves through the system," said Michael Evans, spokesman for Wake County schools. "It makes everyone feel very disheartened when allegations like this come forward."

"He helped everybody, and I don't think he would do something like that," student Samiydan Kerney said.

"He was a nice guy. He was always on the level with students. He talked to them as a friend and a teacher," student Terrence Jones said.

Robertson is being held in the Wake County Jail on $100,000 bond. He will return to court on May 26.

Counselors were available to students at the school Thursday who wished to discuss the incident.

Roberston is the fourth Wake County teacher charged with a sex crime since 2003. Early last year, Juan Bedoya, a teacher at Sanderson High School in Raleigh, pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a 16-year-old.

In April,

Clyde Lynn

, a teacher at Green Hope High in Cary, was accused of sex charges involving a girl younger than 15. In August, Zebulon Elementary School teacher

Christopher Journigan

was accused of having sex with a 12-year-old male student over a 3-year period.
