Goldsboro, N.C. — A 21-year-old man who was shot in the parking lot of a neighborhood convenience store in Goldsboro Thursday morning died inside the store before officers arrived on the scene, police said.

Khyrie Roberts was standing outside the Madison Grill and Grocery on Holly Street around 11:20 a.m. when he was struck by a bullet. Witnesses said they heard more than a dozen gunshots.

It wasn't clear whether Roberts was the target of the shooting.

After being wounded, he went inside the store where he ran into his cousin, 20-year-old Emanuel Gatling, who lives in the nearby Fairview Homes. Gatling said Roberts fell into his arms and they both fell to the floor.

"It hurt me so bad. Right now, I'm smiling, but inside it's bothering me, tearing me up," Gatling said. "He died just looking at me with his eyes open."

I'm sorry I must be missing the rest of the written story. No where in this story does it say they were "stealing" nor does it say they were "involved with drugs or a gang" so I'm not sure exactly where some of you are getting your comments from. Racism perhaps? Let's change the color on these men's faces and see how many posts would say "oh no, so sad for the family that must be horrible". People and their discrimination and hatred amaze me.

No, it looks like you are talking out of a place on the body that we are not allowed to mention here. There is nothing whatsoever to point to your conclusion.

Where di you people get the idea he was doing anything wrong when he was shot? Just wondering. Some of these comments sounds like they are saying he got what was coming to him.
