<b>HOPE MILLS, N.C.</b> — Sheriff's deputies in Cumberland County are investigating an overnight shooting in Hope Mills.

Officials say Alton Smith was shot  near Tom Starling Road and U.S. 301.

There is no word on a motive or Smith's condition.

According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer discovered the body of a man inside a vehicle at Hobbton High School's athletic field. Authorities believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
