HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. — The Halifax County manager who was deployed to Iraq has received a special honor.
Matthew Delk, who was injured when his National Guard convoy struck a land mine last week, received the Purple Heart medal.
Delk was burned on his hands and face, but he managed to pull two of his comrades out of the flaming wreckage.
Delk is currently recovering in a hospital in Germany.
