GARNER, N.C. — According to the Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill, the body found in Lake Benson over the weekend was that of Troy Stephens.

Stephens had walked away from the Meadows of Garner -- an assisted living community -- earlier in the week. He reportedly had heart and emotional conditions that required daily medication.

Lake Benson is approximately 1.5 miles from the Meadows of Garner.

An exact cause and approximate time of death still was not known Sunday. Investigators said they must wait for the official autopsy report.

"We do not suspect foul play," Garner Police Chief Tom Moss said. "Until the autopsy report is made available, we are going to reserve making any statement as to the cause and time of Mr. Stephens' death. Investigators are still working on this case."

Authorities had been searching for Stephens all week. K-9 teams, blood hounds and helicopters were used in the search, while flyers were distributed throughout Wake, Johnston and Harnett counties by Garner police.

Search and rescue dogs from Virginia were called in Friday afternoon to conduct another search.
