A rural community is making sure local residents who are on active duty are not forgotten.

The hometown heroes are being recognized on the Wall of Honor in Roanoke Rapids.

Parents have posted color pictures of their sons and daughters who are on active duty. The purpose of the Wall of Honor is to remind the public that local residents are still in harm's way.

"It's a wonderful feeling to pass daily, ride by and see the support that we have in Halifax County for our troops in Iraq," said Suzanne Garriss, whose son is deployed overseas.

The half-block long tribute is located on East 10th St.
