One of the victims in Wednesday's hit-and-run spree was able to jump into his own truck and chase after the suspect.

Authorities say Abdullah El-Amin Shareef stole a city of Fayetteville van and a pickup truck and ran over five people Wednesday morning, killing one.

Despite being knocked down and hurt, one of the victims, Seth Thompson, managed to escape. He jumped into his own truck and chased Shareef while talking to a 911 dispatcher.

"I was almost waiting to hear bones break. Really, that's what went through my mind," he said.

Thompson's description allowed police to track the suspect and connect the entire hit-and-run spree. Investigators also said Thompson's actions may have prevented more people from being hit.
