WILSON, N.C. — A community already struggling with job losses suffers another blow.
The Purdue pharmaceutical plant in Wilson is laying off at least 42 employees. The company said it part of a nationwide cut due to the prediction of slower sales.
Purdue's chief product is the drug, OxyContin. They say new competition from a generic version of the drug is to blame.
The company will offer severance packages to Wilson employees. Some workers could lose their jobs this week.
