FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County detectives on Tuesday charged 27-year-old Ennis Brady, of Bedrock Drive in Fayetteville, with the attempted first-degree murder of a 9-month-old child.
The charge stems from an incident earlier this month that sent the child to a hospital. Investigators believe Brady beat the child in the head, cracking his skull in three spots.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Brady is the live-in boyfriend of Shannon Nickole, who is the child's guardian. Brady was providing care for supervising the child at the time of the injury.
Brady was placed in the Cumberland County Detention Center on $100,000 bond. His girlfriend does not face any charges.
The child had been admitted to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center April 6 with multiple skull fractures. Medical personnel confirmed that the injuries could have been life-threatening. The injuries were sustained sometime between April 2 and April 5.
WRAL learned Tuesday that the baby is recovering and may go home from the hospital soon.
