RALEIGH, N.C. — A young Triangle native made it home from Iraq just in time to spend Easter with his family.

"I'm still a little paranoid every once in a while," Spc. Ryan Derr said Friday. "You get freaked out, hear something, a car backfire. You duck a little bit. But I'm starting to get back over that."

Derr, 20, returned to Chapel Hill on Friday after spending a year in Iraq. His parents and younger sister welcomed him home at Raleigh-Durham International.

It marked the first time they had seen each other in two years.

His parents said it is a blessing to have him home safely.

Durr said he would have liked to stay and help in Iraq until things settle down. But he added that "it feels good to be home."
