DURHAM, N.C. — A Duke University student said someone tried to rob her Thursday night as she walked near East Campus.
The student told campus police that a teenage boy grabbed her purse but eventually let go when she refused to release it.
The student reportedly was not injured.
The report was the latest in a series of accusations of violence on or near campus.
The university has reacted by putting three new officers in training at the police academy. It also plans to hire two more.
Once the officers graduate, they will patrol neighborhoods off campus.
