FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The owner of a Fayetteville dry cleaning business has cleaned up.
He successfully sued the
Public Works Commission
after bad water damaged his customers' clothes.
Smitty's Cleaners has been in business for more than 40 years. A few years ago, the establishment's owner, Ikey Smith, noticed that clothes were coming out spotted.
After researching the situation, Smith nailed down the problem: dirty water.
He sued the Public Works Commission -- and won.
A jury took the Public Works Commission to the cleaners, awarding Smitty's $409,000 for damaged equipment and for having to redo clothes.
Smith said he re-washed and replaced the dirty clothes so that he would not lose customers.
