RALEIGH, N.C. — Officials with the Employment Security Commission hope to meet today to discuss security at its offices in response to the shooting death of an ESC employee in Hendersonville.
Office manager Letch Beatty was killed in the shooting Friday. Co-worker Ron Piercy was wounded in the incident.
Police arrested 30-year-old William Franklin "Billy" Case about an hour after the shooting and charged him with murder and attempted murder.
Witnesses told authorities that Case was upset about unemployment benefits he was not receiving and that he had a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol hidden underneath his clothing.
The office in Hendersonville is closed temporarily so employees can recover from the shooting.
