Raleigh police arrest man pretending to be one of them
Raleigh police arrested Meredith Cromartie, 19, Wednesday and charged him with impersonating a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
Posted — UpdatedSearch warrants for Cromartie’s home and Facebook page show that he posed as a Raleigh police officer on several occasions. Investigators say they found a badge in his home and his Facebook profile work history lists the FBI and the Raleigh Police Department as former employers.
Cromartie was a former "police explorer" with the Raleigh Police Department in a program designed to expose high school students to law enforcement careers, investigators say. He has never been employed by the police department.
Search warrants say witnesses told police that Cromartie threw a man, who was attempting to enter a North Raleigh business, to the ground before identifying himself as a Raleigh police officer. Investigators said he also portrayed himself as an officer at another Raleigh business on March 29 in an attempt to keep the owner from throwing him out.
