CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Jury selection is off to a slow start in the trial of a Camp Lejeune marine charged with sabotaging parachutes.
Investigators say 28-year-old Cpl. Clayton Chaffin of Ohio tried to ruin parachutes used during an exercise in 2002. Three Marines were injured in the incident.
Attorneys say the selection process is dragging on because potential jurors say they either know too much about the case or are connected to potential witnesses.
Another Marine, Lance Cpl. Antoine Boykins, was sentenced to 20 years in prison last year for the stunt.
