Roanoke Rapids man accused of stealing $183K from 75-year-old

Posted April 11, 2012

— A Roanoke Rapids man faces a felony charge after he allegedly stole $183,000 from a 75-year-old woman.

Tony Martin Jr., 46, of 801 Jackson St., was charged last week with one count of exploiting a disabled/elderly person's trust from April 2011 until February.

Roanoke Rapids police won't comment on the case, but the victim's daughter told WRAL News Wednesday that her mother met Martin through his interior design business, Martin Interiors, in Littleton.

The daughter, who asked she not be identified, said that Martin had worked for her mother and that her mother considered him to be a friend. She would not say how Martin allegedly took the money.

Neither the North Carolina Attorney General's Office nor the Better Business Bureau have received any complaints against Martin.

He is out of jail on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to make his next court appearance in May.

It doesn't matter what church he goes to, what color his skin is, or what party he is affiliated with. The fact is if he did this to anyone, especially an elderly person, it is despicable.Once again, he is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

If in fact he is guilty, I hope he gets a very harsh sentence. People that commit crimes like this are just plain wicked.

Wish there was more info available on Martin ..... Republican or Democrat, Christian church member or Atheist?

Sounds like we have a candidate for the Roanoke Rapids city council. Just how many millions did they steal from local residents over that failed theater project?

poor excuse for a human if this turns out to be true. It just burns me up when I think about anyone, especially the elderly getting fooled into losing their money.

That's gonna be hard to explain when he meets the Lord on judgement day. :) I hope they send his sorry tail to JAIL.
