HALIFAX, N.C. — A Roanoke Rapids man faces a felony charge after he allegedly stole $183,000 from a 75-year-old woman.

Tony Martin Jr., 46, of 801 Jackson St., was charged last week with one count of exploiting a disabled/elderly person's trust from April 2011 until February.

Roanoke Rapids police won't comment on the case, but the victim's daughter told WRAL News Wednesday that her mother met Martin through his interior design business, Martin Interiors, in Littleton.

The daughter, who asked she not be identified, said that Martin had worked for her mother and that her mother considered him to be a friend. She would not say how Martin allegedly took the money.

Neither the North Carolina Attorney General's Office nor the Better Business Bureau have received any complaints against Martin.

He is out of jail on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to make his next court appearance in May.
