RALEIGH, N.C. — Three people are in critical condition at WakeMed after a nasty accident Friday night on Interstate 40 between Wade Avenue in Raleigh and Harrison Avenue in Cary.
Traffic in the eastbound lane of I-40 was at a standstill for about two hours after the accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m.
According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of an Acura was traveling in a westbound land when he lost control and crossed over the median, crashing through steel cables and into a car traveling in an eastbound lane.
The Acura was cut in half. The other car suffered heavy damage.
Troopers reopened all eastbound lanes to traffic just before 10 p.m.
There was no word on what caused the Acura driver to lose control of his car.
