RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina State basketball legend was in Raleigh, encouraging kids to score big in life.
David Thompson spoke Tuesday at a fund-raising breakfast for Loaves and Fishes, an organization that helps at-risk children.
"There are so many things out there that people can get involved in -- drugs, guns, gangs, crime, so we want to tell kids the No. 1 focus should be on education and making good choices," he said.
Thompson, who is a former N.C. State all-star and NBA player, talked about how drugs and alcohol took him from the top of his career to the bottom of his life. He encouraged children to never try drugs because you do not ever know where it will lead.
