— Three of four suspects charged in a fatal Pitt County triple shooting over the weekend made their first appearance before a District Court judge Thursday, where they learned they could receive a maximum sentence of death if convicted.

Antwan Andre Anthony, 29, Xavier Montel Shamble, 19, and Willie Whitehead, 23, as well as an unidentified juvenile, were arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder in the Sunday night deaths of a Farmville convenience store owner's teenage son and two of his relatives during what authorities say was an armed robbery.

All four face numerous other charges, including first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Anthony, Shamble and Whitehead were appointed defense attorneys and ordered held without bond. Their next court date is April 19.

The juvenile's case is being handled in the juvenile court system.

The suspects are accused of killing Mokbel Mohamed "Sam" Almujanhi, 16, as he mopped the floor at the Hustle Mart convenience store. The owner's nephew, Nabil Nasser Saeed Al'mogannahi, 26, and a cousin Gaber Alawi, 24, were also shot and killed.

A customer found the bodies after coming to the store just before closing time around 10 p.m.

Anthony's aunt, Wanda Foreman, told WNCT-TV in Greenville that he has struggled with mental issues his entire life, had been on medication and that the shootings should not have happened.

"The family lost three members, and that's not right. I feel the pain that they're going through," she said. "I'm sorry, from the bottom of my heart, that this happened. It shouldn't have happened."

The TV station reported that Anthony used foul language throughout the hearing and that some of it was directed toward the victims' families.

Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks said Wednesday that the arrests came as a relief after more than three days of an intense search following the shootings.

"This isn't the right word to say, but we rejoice that we got these guys in custody," Elks said at a news conference.

During the investigation, authorities made extensive use of social media and other tools, with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office posting surveillance photos from the store on its Facebook page within hours of the killings. Elks credited tips to the Crime Stoppers hotline with helping lead deputies to the four suspects.

I'm sorry if I sound rude but I say lock them up, throw away the key...or better yet give them an early death penalty.

17 year olds are adults in NC in the courts. The un-named juvenile in this case would have to be 15, or younger, to be in NC Juvenile Court.

Hate crime charges will not factor into this, because of the color of the perps. Don't believe me? Wait and see.

I agree with airborne... 17yr.olds can fight and die in wars but if not in the military there not adults. How messed up is that? I say he is old enough to carry a gun and kill he is old enough to be killed. I knew it would be blamed on some "mental"issue too...What a load of cr___.

    Airborne—

I agree completely. Unfortunately, whether he's charged as an adult or not, he wouldn't have the same punishment as his accomplices due to the Supreme Court believing that 17 year old who knowingly plot out crimes are just under some sort of peer pressure or are too immature to realize the severity of their actions. Something tells me this juvenile will once he's in prison, but juveniles will always be a group of safeguarded people in the eyes of the court, no matter their crimes.

When seventeen year old juveniles go into the military and fight in a war they are considered men [Adults] but when the same seventeen year old juveniles commit a crime here in the United States, all of a sudden they are considered juveniles and often the court becomes very lenient and will treat them with velvet gloves.

I myself respect all juveniles and will give them every benefit of a doubt, but when a juvenile commits a serious crime such as this, in my opinion, that juvenile has crossed the line into adulthood and should be treated the same as any adult that commits a serious crime.

It seems to me that the minute the juvenile walked into the store with the intention of committing the robbery he became an adult and should be treated like an adult in a court of law and WRAL should post his picture.

And my excuse for any typos is that the keys on my keyboard keep sticking darn it.

Foul langauge toward the victims families, could this be a hate crime? Were they targeted because of their foreign origin,if so,we need rallies to be held for these victims, calling for justice. These 4 need nothing less than the death sentence. I don't care if one is a juevnile, he knew what he was doing. Big"boy" with a gun.

It does sound like these lowlifes were stupid enough to set themselves up for federal hate crime charges. The more charges the better, I think. They need to be under the jail.

Listening to the TV news story sickened me. The family of the killers blaming the murder on the "System" because their precious little drain on society was not in jail. What has our world come to when no one will take responsibility for their actions. I can't wait for the family to play the race card, and we all know its coming.

Give these no good low lifes the chair.
