Councilman, Cumberland County Reach Settlement After Smoke Bomb Incident

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County is settling the score after a smoke bomb accident.

Fayetteville City Councilman DJ Haire lost some of his hearing when a smoke bomb went off during a homecoming game in 2002. The county agreed to pay him more than $300,000.

In exchange, Haire agreed not to file future lawsuits against the county or the sheriff's office.
