FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Investigators are looking into an incident in which a baby fell three stories from a window at a Fayetteville apartment complex.

Authorities said 11-month-old James Edward Pettigrew II was on a bed Monday afternoon when he somehow tumbled out through a screened window.

Emergency crews said Pettigrew was breathing when they arrived at the Brookhollow Drive apartment, but he was unconscious.

Pettigrew was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he is currently on life support.

Latonya Pettigrew, James' mother, and another child were in the home at the time of the accident.
